PACKAGE THEFT- Video Can Help Catch Package Thieves

The poster that has been distributed on social media about Alisha Rashell Klepper who is wanted for package theft in the City of Snohomish shows how video can be helpful in an investigation. The poster has several security photos of Klepper allegedly taking a package from a front porch. Social media has been full of pictures from home security cameras of package thieves and burglars in the act.

While placement of cameras may not seem like rocket science, a little thought will go a long way to give police the best views to make a case. Getting a good shot of a thief in the act is important. A view of the street that can show the getaway vehicle and hopefully its license plate can also be helpful. Police can be on the lookout for the vehicle. Your neighbors can also be on the lookout for it and then report it to 911 as suspicious.

Sgt. Nathan Alanis, of the Snohomish County Sheriff Office’s Office of Neighborhoods, points out that having your cameras visible to any potential package thieves or burglars can deter some of them from even attempting a theft. Just be sure that the cameras are out of reach from being removed or damaged.

Sgt, Alanis also suggests having your packages sent to secure locations such as work, an Amazon locker or a UPS or FEDEX store.

With package delivery continuing to increase in popularity, securing those packages is a concern for consumers. Taking practical steps to protect your online purchases will help to save frustration in the future.
