This is a reminder that your local utility will not call you
to demand payment of alleged late utility payments or else it will shut off your
electricity or water.
In a tweet today, the Snohomish County
PUD warned that it has been receiving an increase in complaints from its
customers of receiving calls from utility scammers. Seattle City Light has
issued a similar warning to its customers.
The utilities point out that while
this is an old scam, scammers try different methods to put victims off guard.
Remember, if you receive a call from
anyone claiming to be from your local utility and threatens to cut off your
power if you do not pay immediately with a gift card, hang up. Call your
utility to verify that you do not owe them. Look up their number on your statements
or by a search online.
