SNOHOMISH COUNTY – Dog Poisoning Alert

The Autumn Meadows Neighborhood Watch has notified its members about deliberate poisonings of dogs in Snohomish County. According to an Autumn Meadows resident who is active with an online dog owners group, there have been multiple poisoning incidents throughout the area. Incidents have also occurred at Willis Tucker Park.

Apparently, someone is leaving meatballs with rat poison for dogs to find and eat. At least one dog is dead, and tests proved that it ate rat poison. Other incidents include poisoned meat being thrown into yards. In several incidents, homeowners have found the meat before their dogs found them.

Autumn Meadows Neighborhood Watch encourages all dog owners to watch for meat that is out of place and to report any suspicious activity to 911.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Burglary in Garage

On Saturday, March 30, a homeowner on 45^th Ave SE in Autumn Meadows discovered their garage door open and that their car had been broken into.

A wallet containing an ID & debit card, sunglasses, Coach hand purse, and IPOD had been taken from the car. The thieves had made a small charge on the debit card before the homeowner could deactivate the account.

The homeowner was unsure if they left the door open by mistake or if the thieves had a universal garage door opener.

Note: An open garage door provides an easy opportunity for thieves. As noted above the thieves could have had a universal garage door opener. Another method burglars use is to break into cars parked just outside of houses to take the garage door opener, then open the garage door to take what they want in any vehicles inside, tools and other items in the garage, and if possible enter the house to take what they can find. One would think that keeping things in your car in a locked garage would be OK. But, this incident shows that that thought is not necessarily true. When you park your car, even in your garage, be sure to NOT leave anything inside it!

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Attempted Burglary

On the evening of Wednesday, November 21, around 10:15pm, a burglar attempted to enter a house near the intersection of 44^th Dr. SE and 122^nd Pl SE in Autumn Meadows.

At that time, the alarm went off. The homeowner’s were upstairs. The wife called 911. The husband checked the downstairs, after arming himself. All he found was the front door wide open. Sheriff’s deputies checked the area for suspects.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Burglary

Sometime during the day on Friday, August 10, a house on 43rd Drive in Autumn Meadows was burglarized.

The burglar took jewelry, a guitar and a credit card. The victim's bank told him that the card was having questionable charges on it.

According to the victim, there was no visible sign of entry. Some time went by before he noticed that things were missing.

Note: Most of the time, when a victim returns home to find that they were burglarized, the signs of entry are obvious- front door kicked in, rear window or sliding glass door with broken glass, varying messy conditions inside. This burglar obviously took the time to be "neat" to lengthen the time that the victim would call 911.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Car Broken Into

A resident’s car was broken into in Autumn Meadows overnight on Saturday December 17, 2011. Some prescription drugs and cash were stolen. The victim assumes that some local teens broke into the car.

As a reminder, do not keep anything in sight when you park your car on the street. Prescription drugs can have a strong attraction for thieves and cash obviously has a good value for them also. And don’t forget when you are at the mall making your last minute Christmas purchases to store your packages out of sight in your car. Thieves roam the mall parking lots for targets of opportunity.

One final reminder, winter is the time of year when some people will warm up their cars in the morning by running the engine while they are inside their house getting ready for work. Don’t do this. You might find that you have warmed your car up 

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Theft

Thursday evening, August 4, 2011, around 7pm someone stole a full 5 gallon jerry can of gasoline from a neighbor's garage on 43rd Drive SE. The garage door was open and the homeowners were in the back yard talking with neighbors. The thieves dropped the flex nozzle in their haste to escape.


The homeowner also reported there has been an inordinate number of strangers walking and driving down 43rd, which seems to have become a shortcut for unruly teens and speeders of late.

Thieves often take advantage of open garage doors when homeowners are in the back yard gardening or enjoying the day. Close and lock all of your doors especially when you are in the back. You never know who might slip into your garage to take something.

And as always, if you see suspicious people in your neighborhood, call 911 with a description.

Autumn Meadows- Thefts

A resident near 45th Ave SE and 126th Street SE experienced two thefts in recent weeks. Someone broke into their car and stole a cell phone car charger and iPod FM transmitter. And over the weekend of May 21/22, someone stole a new TIVO from their front porch (shipped via UPS). Both incidents were reported to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Car Prowls

On Wednesday, February 23, 2011, a neighbor in the vicinity of 121st Pl SE and 45th Ave SE discovered that their vehicle had been broken into. A couple of jackets and the registration slip for the car were taken. The car was covered with lots of snow and tracks indicated that a car drove up on the street and that the footprints in the snow were large. The neighbor is unsure if the car was locked.


In another incident around the same time, a neighbor in the same vicinity discovered their car broken into, also. This break-in occurred either Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning. The neighbor spoke to several other neighbors in the area that also had their vehicles broken into or sifted through. Only personal information was taken, no valuables were touched.

Note: According to these reports the car prowlers were targeting personal information and car registration information. This may be more disturbing than taking iPods, cameras or other possessions.

Be sure not to have anything showing in your vehicle. Keep wallets and purses with you, especially since they will have your personal information such as driver’s licenses, credit cards, checks, etc.

As far as your car registration, you can store it in another place other than your vehicle. For example you can keep it in your purse or wallet. The law only requires that you produce it when asked by a law enforcement officer.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Slashed Tires

On Sunday morning, January 16, 2011, a homeowner near the corner of 43rd Ave SE and 126th St SE discovered that both rear tires had been slashed on one of the vehicles in their driveway.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Vehicle Break-in

A homeowner’s vehicle, in the vicinity of 45th Ave SE and 122nd Place SE was broken into Thursday night/early Friday morning (Oct. 28/29).The homeowner had forgotten to lock the vehicle. The thieves took the GPS unit and sifted through the glove box.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Car Prowl

Overnight on Wednesday September 1/Thursday September 2, a car was broken into in the vicinity of 122nd Pl SE and 44th Dr SE. The car prowlers smashed out the driver's window and then went through the glove box, console and trunk. The only thing that was missing was an old emergency roadside toolbox. There was nothing of value in the car for them to take.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Suspicious Person

Friday, August 20 around 5:30 p.m. at 44th Dr and 122nd Dr SE, a middle aged white male approached a homeowner's door. He was claiming to be with a home security company called “Northstar.’ He was very pushy and kept asking specific questions about the home alarm system. Asking questions like, is your alarm actively hooked up, how many sensors do you have. The homeowner had to tell him at least 5-7 times to please leave, and actually had to end up slamming the door on him. The homeowner called 911 and a deputy showed up and talked with the "salesman."

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Kid Out at Night

A homeowner left their home (near 122nd Pl SE and 43rd Dr) at 3:30 am and encountered a teen dressed all in black on a skate board going down the newly paved black road. Please watch out for any similar occurrences and remind your children to dress in bright clothing when out after dark.

Note: One might wonder what a teen is doing out at that hour, but the advice to wear light colored clothing when it is dark is good advice, especially in the winter.

AUTUMN MEADOWS - Burglary

An Autumn Meadows home (vicinity of 43rd Drive SE and 122nd Pl SE) was broken into and burglarized Monday, July 5 between 8:30 and 10:30 AM.

The resident had left the house at 8:30 AM. A neighbor noticed a silver blue sedan in the driveway sometime after they left. Thieves completely destroyed the front door and jam with a crow bar. Jewelry and personal items were stolen- watches, rings, necklaces, etc.

A Sheriff’s deputy was able to take fingerprints.

This may be a team of 3 that will case a house, knock on the door, leave for a few minutes, then come back, and knock again. If there is no answer, they enter the house and take property that is easy to sell, fence or pawn.

As usual, if you see any unusual or suspicious activity on your neighbor’s property call 911.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Vandalism

Early on the morning of March 16, 2010, between 4:00am and 6:00am, a family, in the vicinity of 126th and 45th Ave SE, woke up only to find their backyard sliding glass door broken and shattered. The family heard a few bangs, but didn't think much of it. Their side yard door was opened. Someone came thru the side door, possibly with a baseball bat, and hit the glass door (the fixed panel) a couple of times. It left a large round hole and shattered the whole panel. Piece by piece, the whole glass came down. They did not report anything missing in their email.

Note: Normally car prowls occur in residential areas overnight or in the early morning hours. If this was a burglary, possibly the perpetrator thought the house was empty since one of the family members left for work at 4:00am.

This incident highlights the importance of keeping side gates or doors to the back yard closed and locked whenever possible to deny thieves access to the back of your house.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Motorhome Broken Into

Between 11:30 pm Sunday February 28, and 5:30 am Monday morning, March 1, someone broke into a motorhome at 43rd & 121st Place SE. The window lock was lifted and window slid open. Nothing was broken or stolen.

Note: RV’s including motorhomes, 5th wheels and travel trailers are sometimes targets of burglars. No matter where you store your RV, in a secured storage yard or at your home it can be broken into. To minimize loss, do not keep weapons, alcohol or drugs (even prescription drugs) in your RV. High end electronics, such as flatscreen TV’s, can also be desired targets of burglars. If you have a flatscreen TV in your RV, be sure it is well hidden, or if possible, store it in a secure place such as your home.

AUTUMN MEADOWS- Suspicious Solicitor

A white male with brown curly hair knocked on the door of a residence near 45th Ave SE and 122nd Pl SE at 8:30pm last night, Tuesday February 9, 2010. The male was “jumpy” and appeared to try to “sell” something, but the homeowner could not figure out just what. The male was dressed in slacks, shirt and tie and carried just one piece of paper. The fact that someone was at the door apparently selling something at that time of night was suspicious to the homeowner who called 911. A Sheriff’s Office deputy responded immediately. The homeowner noted the male at a nearby corner talking on his cell phone. Minutes later, the male got into a large white van with a company name of “RJ Distributing.” The homeowner followed the van into Pioneer Trails, onto 35th Ave SE, then onto 116th St SE and into the Wyngate community.


Note: There are companies that deposit usually young men in neighborhoods who do door to door sales. These companies may be “legitimate” but there is the potential for individuals with criminal records to work for these companies. Most burglaries occur during the day when no one is around. Burglaries, or robberies if someone is in the house, are rare. A door to door sales operation in the evening can have the potential for scoping out potential targets to be hit in the next day or so. While Snohomish County does not have a “Green River” ordinance, if a solicitor causes suspicion in your neighborhood, feel free to call 911 to report him/her to the Sheriff’s Office. Be sure to give as complete of a description as your can (approximate height/weight, color hair, type of clothing and colors, and description and license number of any associated vehicles).

PIONEER TRAILS/AUTUMN MEADOWS- Suspicious Activity

During the morning of February 4, 2010, around 8am, police were looking for a car theft suspect who fled into the wooded areas of Pioneer Trails. The search included police and K9 units. It is not known if the suspect was caught.

Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, around 10pm, a Pioneer Trails resident reported to 911 about suspicious activity at the Pioneer Trails north pond, by 2 white males in their late teens or early 20’s, smoking pot. A few minutes earlier, they had been seen exiting a maroon/red Ford Escort station wagon (license number 237UCS) in the vicinity of 122nd Pl SE and 42nd Dr SE.
