A Government Program that Pays Your Bills? The Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) warns that people are approaching church goers, especially in
African-American churches with claims that the government has a program to “pay
your bills” with an up-front payment or processing fee. The scammers use the fact
that the information about this “program” was spread at church to try to gain
legitimacy.
The FTC warns that there is no
government program that will pay your bills. There are legitimate government
web sites that can help you if you are having trouble paying certain bills such
as utilities or medical bills (https://www.usa.gov/help-with-bills).
These sites will not ask you to pay them!
